Friendships: Helping on the Journey

Friendships Reduced to the Basest
Sentimentality Becomes Meaningless

Friendships are one of the most difficult relationships to define but the easiest to recognize; especially in modern life. Wikipedia defines friendship as, “a relationship of mutual affection between people”. The above graphic sentimentalizes friendship into a meaningless emotionalism. In essence, friendship becomes the means by which you either succeed or fail on your journey through life. Continue reading “Friendships: Helping on the Journey”

Nihilism: Depravity Devouring Depravity

Kitty Genovese: Picture of Innocence
Total Depravity’s Poster Child

Ms. Kitty Genovese was brutally attacked and killed in 1964, by a psychopath named Winston Moseley (New York Times Retro Report). The original story claimed 38 persons heard her screams for help and no one either came to help her or attempted to become involved simply by phoning the police. This became the basis for articles, TV shows and movies about the effect of urban life on persons willingness to help others. This myth persists today. The truth is very different. Insanity: Expecting Good from Depravity

Beheading of John the Baptist
Example of Depravity on many levels

A friend asked me to help him prepare a lesson on human corruption as demonstrated by the guests of Herod’s who did not condemn him for ordering the beheading of John the Baptist and thus became partners in his demonstration of sinful depravity (Mt 14:1-12; Mk 6:14-29). Government: One Body for All

Sinisterism: Defining Man’s
One Body Imitation of Christ

Continuing our discussion of socialism from last week (Government Without Socialism?) we need to understand the context of current events or we lose any sense of the big picture and simply run from one “crisis” to another. Since Lucifer is not the author of anything new we need to understand what he is attempting to copy in order to understand seemingly unrelated events and forces at work today. Continue reading “Government: One Body for All”

Government Without Socialism?

Rousseau’s Social Contract
Direct Pathway to Socialism

The father of the French Revolution, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, framed his argument as a social compact (contract in today’s language) between government and its citizens. However, he usually violated Aristotle’s First Law of Logic  (Law of Identity) by not defining his terms; a common problem amongst politicians even today. It’s easier to have the listener define the terms, usually incorrectly, leaving the speaker free to commit the logical fallacy of reification (changing definitions as convenient to his (her) argument. Scoffers: Trapped in Sin

Scoffers Use Sarcasm and Laughter
Elevating Themselves at Other’s Expense

“Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you” (Pr 9:8). Scoff is an old English word meaning to “to speak derisively; mock; jeer” (Dictionary). You would know it better as sarcastic speech today. The Proverbs has much to say about scoffers, those who use sarcasm; none of it beneficial to the user nor the object of such contempt. False Premise: America Land of the Free

Symbol of America: Home of the Free
Talks more about America’s Socialism

Discernment is the art of detecting logical fallacies as well as the application of doctrinal truths to everyday life. America’s claim of being the “Home of the Free – Land of the Brave” is instilled in every school child but less truth than propaganda for the state. False Premise: Some Leaven is Good

False Premise: Some Leaven is Acceptable
Question: How much sin is allowed?

Continuing our discussions of sin and false premises let us apply what we have learned to our time. Christ told a parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened (Mt 13:33).” This highly controversial parable is often taught as leaven being a good metaphor; however, this ignores the fact that leaven everywhere else in the Bible is considered a metaphor for sin {“Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth”} (1Co 5:6-8). False Premise: Chasing One’s Tail

Premises Determine the Conclusions
False Premises Yield False Conclusions

Last week’s post (Fallaciousness of Autonomy) began with the premise that Lucifer beguiled Woman into accepting a false premise leading to a false conclusion that led to her making a fateful decision to sin. This week I want to explore this relatively simple but profound concept and its implications for all of us today. Continue reading “False Premise: Chasing One’s Tail”

Fallaciousness of Autonomy

This Painting: Temptation of Eve
Depicts the Lack of Clarity of this Sin

When Lucifer encountered Woman {Eve} in the Garden she was in her pre-sin state. Her mind, unlike ours, was unclouded by sin. She could reason more clearly, more fully, than we can possibly envision; therefore, the question becomes, “How was she deceived?” Herein lies the tale that affects us especially today in our 21st century postmodern worldview: the fallaciousness of autonomy.
